On Sunday, November 6 (shopping Sunday), the Groningen city center will once again be entirely dedicated to Walk-In Concerts! The event has been received with such enthusiasm by participants and the public that a 4th edition was inevitable.
The Groningen City Club and the Fonds Ondernemend have once again commissioned the organization of the free festival. This year features no fewer than 25 participating shops, 27 different acts, and 75 performances. On November 6, visitors will once again literally walk right into the concerts. Between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the public can listen to live music ranging from jazz and classical to blues/soul and pop, from bands to singer-songwriters. Spread across 13 shopping streets throughout Groningen's city center, with participants ranging from the VVV, Boekhandel van der Velde, Ziengs (Grote Markt), stips (Poelestraat), Maxime and KokoToko (Oosterstraat), Plato, Trekpleister, Coffee Company, and Brixx (Oude Ebbingestraat). With shops from Waagstraat, Zwanestraat, Grote Kromme Elleboog, Vismarkt, A-kerkhof, Brugstraat, Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat, and Folkingestraat, the lineup is complete! In addition to a musical program, the participating stores have set up a special promotion for the Walk-in Concerts in the form of a discount, a voucher, or another offer. The Walk-In Concerts program is complete. A total of 27 different acts and 75 performances. All on Sunday, November 6, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. For each store, the organization considered the wishes, image, target audience, and assortment, and looked for a band or act that fit well. Featuring talented musicians from the Prins Claus Conservatorium – part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Noorderpoort – Arts & Multimedia, as well as established names and bands from the music scene in Groningen and beyond. Coffee Company and Plato are once again going all out this year with three different acts in the stores: Stuart Mavis, The Overslept, and J.R. Smith & The Meteorites. The three groups will perform in both establishments. Featuring Robin IJzerman, Dominggus Pfaff, The Rising Sun, Jan Bresters, Ruben van Hemmen & Daan Jansen, Hiske van Oosterwijk & Rudmer van der Meer, Shirtless, Marisa Cortes Moreno, and Friends of Soul, among others, a very varied program! And all of this in special locations: next to the ticket counter, by the dressing rooms, in the shop window, at the coffee corner, or in the waiting area. And that’s not all; Walk-In Concerts will also be programming music outdoors, namely:
A hilarious mobile act through the city. They have stripped rock songs down to their absolute essence. Armed with sousaphone, soprano saxophone, lyra, bango, accordion, acoustic guitars, snare and bass drums, and plenty of multi-part vocals, this marching band breathes new life into classic songs. Expect spirited renditions of The Final Countdown or a spiritual interpretation of Highway to Hell (AC/DC). They have been playing on stages at festivals across Europe for years, and now for Walk-In Concerts, right through the streets of Groningen. Blaas of Glory is unique in the world. To be admired in Groningen on November 6th.
Rain or shine, Steelband Panmagic brings summer to Groningen on November 6. They have an incredibly broad repertoire including: Pirates of the Caribbean, Quando Quando Quando, La Cucaracha, and Carneval de Paris. Carnival atmosphere on November 6; we can't wait! All songs sound special thanks to the steel drums. Performances on November 6 at the Vismarkt and the Grote Markt.
The organizers of Walk-In Concerts are convinced that the atmosphere in the shops and beyond on November 6 will be fantastic with Blaas of Glory & Steelband Panmagic.
