On Monday, June 20, 2016, at 9:00 AM, the Early Bird presale for Noorderzon starts on the website noorderzon.nl. The evening before – Sunday, June 19 – Artistic Director Mark Yeoman will discuss the program for the 2016 edition of Noorderzon in a talk show at the Grand Theatre on the Grote Markt.
The Early Bird presale concerns a selection of sixteen performances from the main program of the Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen. What can one expect?
‘Some makers bring classics like Chekhov or Sophocles into this era, our time. Others reflect on more recent events, such as the remnants of the Chernobyl disaster or the impact of the war in Syria. A European choreographer works with Vietnamese dancers, a Spanish group works with actors from Groningen, a Portuguese theater maker fights a poet in a boxing ring, and a New York underground heroine has been taking on stupidity in the world her entire life (and therefore with us too!).’ Thus says the festival organization.
‘In the 2016 program, Noorderzon presents young and experienced voices from exciting theater makers from Japan, Cuba, and the United States. Universal stories in many different languages,’ the organization reports on its website. The concrete overview of the first sixteen performances is here to see.
