From Friday, December 19 to Sunday, December 21, 2014, the eighth edition of WinterWelVaart will take place in the most beautiful part of Groningen's city center: the quays of the Hoge and Lage der A and in the Northern Maritime Museum. Intimate concerts, lectures, theater, film, a visual arts route, and a cozy Christmas market are all part of this free-to-attend event. In this brochure, you will find more information about us and the program. For detailed descriptions, please visit www.winterwelvaart.nl
WinterWelVaart is an initiative of the Northern Maritime Museum, the A-Kwartier Neighborhood Association, and the Historical Sailing Association Groningen. WinterWelVaart is a three-day event for a broad audience that aims to keep the maritime history of the city and province alive in an accessible way. During the event, dozens of beautiful (historic) charter ships are moored at the quays of the Hoge and Lage der A, and the Northern Maritime Museum is open to the public free of charge. The ships and the museum serve as the stages for a program full of music, theater, and other special activities. And, of course, everyone can meet the skippers who make their ships accessible to the public and are happy to talk about their work and the vessels.
In addition to the varied program on board the ships, there is also plenty to experience on land. On the quays of the A-Kwartier, there is an atmospheric Christmas market with many different stalls, various activities, and all kinds of delicious snacks and drinks. The Northern Maritime Museum serves as the headquarters of WinterWelVaart, featuring a beautiful exhibition, (children's) activities (also free), and a concluding music program on Saturday.
