On Thursday, January 10, 2019, starting at 1:00 PM, the best beer tappers in the Netherlands will compete against each other during the Dutch Beer Tapping Championship at Horecava. Over the past few months, five regional competitions and a large number of local preliminary rounds took place. The 61 winners of those competitions have qualified for this final. During the final, these professionals will first tap two small glasses and two large glasses, and in the final, tapping specialty beer is added on top of pouring from bottles. This year, this special draft beer will be served for the first time in our own competition glass; see the accompanying photo.
The 10 best bartenders from the selection round advance to the final, which will take place around 15:30. At 16:30, it will be announced who can call themselves the best beer bartender of the Netherlands 2019.
Information about the tapping competitions, the competition rules and protocol, and the criteria on which the jury judges the finalists can be found at www.tapwedstrijden.nl
The Dutch Beer Tapping Championship is organized by the Tapwedstrijden.nl Foundation to enthuse hospitality professionals about the correct way to tap and pour beer. Since the founding of the Tapwedstrijden.nl Foundation in 2010, hundreds of tapping competitions have taken place and 8 Dutch Champions have already been crowned.
Erwin Storm, chairman of the foundation: “In the hospitality industry, there are many products that are made and presented with quality and attention, such as cappuccinos and cocktails. The Beer Tapping Competitions contribute to ensuring that this quality is also reflected in the tapping, pouring, and serving of beer. Specialized beer bars are already fully engaged in this, but we strive to ensure that these practices reach a high level throughout the hospitality industry.”
Just like in previous years, the foundation will dedicate itself 100% to a wonderful national final at Horecava 2019.
Erwin Storm: “We are working together with the four major brewers, Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN), de Tapwacht and Horecava, and I expect it to be another very exciting final.”
