Lend the hospitality industry a hand

The hospitality industry is allowed to reopen! Or at least, almost the entire industry, as night bars, clubs, and discotheques unfortunately remain closed for the time being. After more than two years of hospitality lockdowns and restrictive measures, it once again feels like a kind of liberation for both business owners and guests. Drinks and ingredients are being purchased, the furniture is getting an extra polish, and teams are gathering for a final meeting before the doors can finally be unlocked.

Lockdown on lockdown

The hospitality industry has been hit hard and is one of the sectors hardest hit by the coronavirus. Support measures have only been able to partially alleviate the suffering, but have not fully covered it. This essentially means being able to pay a portion of your fixed costs and (fortunately) receiving wage support to retain your staff. The costs of the closed business? These were largely paid from savings (for the lucky ones), loans, tax deferrals, and sometimes even by increasing mortgages or selling one's own home. Every hospitality entrepreneur has their own story, but fortunately, the entrepreneurial spirit remains. Reopening is therefore a bitter necessity for many, also from an economic perspective, and the ‘corona costs’ will continue to reverberate in the sector for years to come.

For the guests

The hospitality industry—the place where you enjoy a bite and a drink, the place to relax completely during an overnight stay, the place where you enjoy a good conversation sitting at the bar, where you sip a nice glass of wine on the terrace while people-watching, or where you let loose in the club or pub until the early hours. For two whole years, all of that was barely there anymore, except for a few minor hiccups. Open briefly, then closed again. Closing at midnight, 10:00 PM, 7:00 PM, then completely closed again. Face mask fuss on the terrace and at the toilets, limited access, 1.5 meters, fewer tables, mandatory takeaway and delivery, beer packages, vouchers, crowdfunding, and a long, long list of other things… Businesses that have little regard for the concept of hospitality but were born out of pure necessity, because there is only one thing we want, and that is to welcome our guests back!

We are ready, will you help?

Teams are gathering again to go over the schedule, the kitchen is being stocked. Beer tanks are being filled, tables set, and liquor bottles dusted off. Coasters are on the bar, the menus are being updated, and the winter terraces are out of storage; on Wednesday, January 26, we’re kicking off!
