Beer brewers from the provinces of Friesland, Groningen, and Drenthe can now submit their beers for the Northern Beer Map. A jury consisting of recognized beer specialists will taste and judge all the beers on Saturday, April 22, during the Beer Festival in Groningen.
For the third time, goes Misset Horeca in collaboration with recognized beer specialists, in search of the best beer of the region. After the Gelderland Beer Map and the Limburg Beer Map, it is now time for The Northern Beer Map. Breweries from Groningen, Friesland, and Drenthe can register for this. The tasting and the announcement of the best Northern beers will take place on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 AM in Café De Toeter in Groningen, during the Groningen Beer Festival.
Who is allowed to participate?
Who is eligible to participate? All breweries located within the territory of the indicated provinces (Groningen, Friesland, or Drenthe in this case) may participate, provided they clearly state where they brew their beers. The beer must be part of the standard range and therefore not a one-off brew. Furthermore, it does not matter whether it concerns a small microbrewery or a large multinational. As long as you are located within the territory of the relevant region and your beer is supplied to the hospitality industry. It does not matter whether you supply hundreds of establishments or two village pubs in the region. Each brewer may submit two beers.
All submitted beers will be tasted during a tasting by a panel of expert judges. They will blind taste all beers and evaluate them on four points: aroma, main flavor, finish, and general impression. The beers that score best will appear on the Northern Beer Map. This map is being developed to allow hospitality entrepreneurs to offer their guests something local. The number of beers that ultimately make it onto the map will be determined by the jury, depending on the points awarded.
The jury consists of -chairman- Peter van der Arend (including Arendsnest, BeerTemple, Craft&Draft, Cause Beer Loves Food), Fiona de Lange (including zythologist, writer, beer sommelier), Raymond van der Laan (including bieraficionado.nl and –freelance– journalist Volkskrant Magazine), Sander van Werkhoven (including hospitality journalist, beer connoisseur, jury member Café, Terras and Coffee Top 100) and Ivo Thijssen (beer sommelier and organizer of, among others beer tastings).
