The Dogs BollocksA pub based on Irish and English styles, on the corner of Oude Boteringestraat in the city. A building that has housed hospitality establishments for decades. It is not always very noticeable; due to the raised platform, you can easily walk right past it. Yet, many people manage to find it.
The pub focuses primarily on burgers. But also on craft beers; there is a fairly extensive beer menu.

The burgers come in all shapes and sizes, says manager Dennis Schepel. ‘It starts with the classics, as we call them: with cheese, tomato, onion, that sort of thing. Sometimes the burgers come with a foreign twist. Like the Italian burger, for example, which is served on a focaccia with Italian cheese. The Mexican burger is spicy with salsa and jalapeño peppers. All kinds of themes are reflected in the burgers. In addition, all burgers can also be ordered in a vegetarian version.’

Schepel continues: ‘We also have a number of meat dishes and a nice snack menu with chicken wings, very tasty nachos, and a charcuterie board with a bit of everything. But mainly, it is burgers that get ordered.’
‘In addition, we are a sports bar and all Champions League matches can be watched here,’ adds Schepel. ‘Several days a week, various screens are on here and we show all matches that are even remotely relevant.’

‘It’s certainly not really a men’s bar,’ says Dennis. ‘That’s the nice thing about this place; it’s a real mix of young and old. We’re located close to the university, so a lot of students come here too. Coincidentally, a lot of English people as well, and seniors or guys and girls around 18 who come to have a nice beer while watching a good football match. So, a bit of everything. Of course, on some evenings, when certain matches are playing, we have slightly more men than women, but that’s only logical.’
At its core, The Dogs Bollocks is a real pub where you can also eat. The kitchen is open until 10:00 PM, but on Fridays and Saturdays, it often stays lively for a long time afterwards. That is when the atmosphere changes from restaurant to pub.

The beer menu is something they try to distinguish themselves with. ‘We really based the menu on Irish and English styles. For instance, we are one of the few in the city of Groningen to serve Irish Guinness, apple cider, and Irish wet ale, O’Haras—you hardly see that anywhere else.’ In addition, the beer menu is designed to have something for everyone. ‘There are also a few fruit beers on it, which are actually drunk more by women. We have apple cider on tap, and that sells really well. We also have some cocktails like Aperol Spritz and Limoncello Spritz.’

Below the café is another large space with a bar that is available for rent for parties and events. It is the perfect place for a graduation party or bachelor/bachelorette party. Additionally, there is a beer garden that is open when the weather is nice.
The Dogs Bollocks is open every day of the year, except Christmas and New Year's.
