Patrick Beijk can call himself the Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur of the province of Groningen for this year and next. The entrepreneur from the city of Groningen distinguishes himself with, among other things, his hospitality businesses. Mr. Mofongo and The Dog’s Bollocks and also showcases striking and challenging initiatives for new hospitality concepts. Patrick Beijk was informed of the selection on Monday evening during a Dinner Show at Brouwhotel Parkzicht in Veendam.
The jury selected Patrick Beijk from four entrepreneurs nominated for the prestigious Royal Dutch Hospitality Association award. The first nominee was Jelle Bos of Beleef Lauwersoog, with, among other ventures, the hospitality business Het Booze Wijf and a number of interesting concepts to entice guests to come to Lauwersoog. Also nominated was André Dokter of the eponymous steakhouse in Briltil and a second establishment under the name Het Sister of André Dokter in the city center of Groningen.
The fourth participant was Brouwerij Martinus, the still-young company of the Swierstra family, which has built up great name recognition and appreciation in a short time. This year's jury consisted of Egbert Brinks, manager of NH Hotels Groningen and Hotel De Ville and board member of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, Groningen region; Marco Agema, winner of the distinctive award in 2016/2017; Albert Kuil of grand café Borg Nienoord, Restaria Zuid, Sportcentrum Leek, and board member of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland. The fourth jury member was former journalist of the Dagblad van het Noorden, Menno Hoexum.
Koninklijke Horeca Nederland organizes the election of the Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur every two years. The award is for innovative hospitality entrepreneurs who inspire other entrepreneurs. In this way, Koninklijke Horeca Nederland stimulates innovation among its members. The winners from the fourteen regions where the elections are held will meet in early January 2019 when the Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur of the Netherlands is chosen.
